When a screw press loses capacity, outlet consistency becomes unstable, or fiber begins to rise in the filtrate, replacing the complete machine is rarely the first decision. The practical question is which components can still be restored, which have moved beyond repair, and whether a reliable replacement can be produced for the installed equipment.

Repair the wear—not automatically the whole press
A screw press develops dewatering through the combined action of the screw geometry, the drainage area of the screen baskets or plates, and the counter-pressure at discharge. Furnish, inlet consistency, throughput, speed and control settings also influence performance. This is why low outlet consistency by itself does not prove that the screw is worn.
A useful inspection compares operating trends with physical measurements. Flight profile and outer diameter, flight-to-screen clearance, shaft runout, screen opening condition, cracks, deformation, wear protection, bearing condition and discharge movement should be checked by pressure zone. The pattern of wear matters as much as the deepest worn point.
If the shaft remains straight, the base metal is sound and the required profile can be recovered, worn flights can often be rebuilt by controlled weld build-up followed by machining or grinding. The objective is to restore profile, concentricity, surface condition and working clearance—not simply to add material to the outer diameter. Where runout, cracking, structural damage or repeated local repairs prevent those tolerances from being held, replacement of the screw or shaft assembly becomes the safer option.

Screw shafts and flights. Condition assessment, dimensional mapping, repair-scope definition, controlled rebuilding of worn flight surfaces, profile restoration and wear-protection selection. If the existing assembly is no longer a sound repair base, PMTEC can evaluate a replacement screw or shaft assembly against the original interfaces and operating duty.
Screen baskets and screen plates. Inspection covers plugging, erosion, enlarged openings, cracking, distortion and usable drainage area. Repair is possible on some designs; in other cases, replacement elements are the more dependable solution. Material, opening geometry, drainage area, fixing method and clearances must match the press rather than merely its overall dimensions.
Discharge and supporting wear components. Depending on the press design, the scope may also include counter-pressure cones or related discharge parts, wear liners or shoes, seal components and other replaceable items identified during inspection. These parts are checked as part of the pressure and alignment system, not treated as isolated catalog items.
Engineered alternatives for installed and legacy equipment
For an imported, discontinued or long-serving screw press, the original wear part may be unavailable or its delivery time may not fit the shutdown plan. A replacement alternative can be developed from reliable drawings, an undamaged sample, or a controlled dimensional survey of the installed machine.
This is not a simple copy by appearance. The replacement must preserve mounting interfaces, rotation and pressure-zone geometry, material and hardfacing requirements, screen openings and effective drainage area, shaft runout limits and operating clearances. Other wear parts for pulp and stock preparation
The same drawing-and-duty approach can be applied to other regularly replaced components in the line.
